For more than five decades, Marlene A. Affeld has dedicated her life to the pursuit of natural resources, responsible mineral exploration, and the preservation of mining history in western Montana. Together with her late husband, John J. Affeld, she co-founded and operated a group of successful Okahome based energy and exploration companies—J J Affeld Drilling, J.J. Affeld Petroleum Properties, and Sand Hills Exploration—specializing in oil, gas, and mineral ventures throughout the western United States. .
Marlene’s enduring passion for the minerals led her to the Cedar Creek Mining District in Mineral County, Montana, where she and John began acquiring and consolidating placer claims in the early 1990s. Their first holdings, the Hard Times I and II claims, became the foundation of what is now known as the Oregon Gulch Project—a 35-year endeavor that has grown to include multiple historically significant gold properties.
Following John’s passing in 2000, Marlene continued maintaining the claims, overseeing assessment work, and expanding the project’s research base while also mining seasonally in Alaska.
Today, at 82 years old, she remains deeply committed to seeing the Oregon Gulch Project reach its full potential. Her vision is to pass forward a well-documented, permitted, and ethically developed mineral legacy for her grandchildren and for the next generation of responsible prospectors.
Every claim, map, and technical report in the Oregon Gulch portfolio reflects Marlene’s decades of field experience, historical research, and steadfast stewardship. What began as a family exploration venture has evolved into a professionally curated opportunity for new investors to participate in the continued story of gold discovery in one of Montana’s most storied districts.
“It has taken thirty-five years to assemble these claims and record their history,” says Affeld. “I want this legacy to be developed, appreciated, and shared.”
